The trailer of Housefull 5 has come out and although the film is set to release soon, on June 6, 2025, its fans are divided between those anticipating it and those unsure.
One thing is for sure: it’s really long. Not only the trailer but the series as a whole. This fifth film in the Housefull series is the result of the team growing their gags and plot twists since the first film in 2010. Few Bollywood movie series continue past the trilogy due to the repetitive nature and this one hasn’t collapsed yet.
First Impressions: Expectations vs Reality
If you were expecting sharp writing or nuanced storytelling, brace yourself. With Farhad Samji behind the script and Tarun Mansukhani (Dostana, Drive) directing, expectations weren’t exactly sky-high. And yes, we’re talking about that Drive — the Netflix disaster that looked like a 2005 video game mod.
So, let’s just say the bar wasn’t raised very high.
Plot? Kind Of.
The trailer opens with a £69 billion inheritance (cue the “nice” jokes) and a 100th birthday bash on a yacht. Seems like a fun setup… until you realize the birthday guy might not live long enough to enjoy the party. That’s dark comedy, right? Enter the three Jollys — each from a different religion, of course — and suddenly you’re knee-deep in identity confusion, romantic mayhem, and potential murder.
From here, the trailer dives into a messy mix of love triangles, mistaken identities, and a classic whodunit setup aboard a ship where no one can escape — not even the audience, probably.
Characters Galore
Like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, the cast has been trimmed a bit, at least upfront — three male leads, three female leads, and then a mini-army of side characters. We also get appearances from Sanjay Dutt, Tiger Shroff, and later, Nana Patekar, whose entry suggests the chaos is only beginning.
Tiger Shroff as “Mr. Curry Leaf” is a joke that almost works — and surprisingly, Jackie Shroff’s “Chhoti Bacchi Ho Kya?” callback got a genuine laugh. It’s outdated, yes, but it still manages to tickle the funny bone.
Comedy & Chaos — A Risky Mix
The Housefull franchise thrives on chaos, confusion, and comic timing. But as with all comedies, it’s hit or miss. Some jokes land, while others make you cringe so hard you feel your teeth rattle. The trailer hints at physical gags, classic one-liners, and slapstick sequences — including a Marilyn Monroe-style dhoti scene with Nana Patekar, followed by Akshay Kumar’s punchline:
“Kya dekh liya bhai? Oh no… lifelong trauma.”
It’s these moments — scattered and unconnected — that give the trailer its up-and-down rhythm. You chuckle once, cringe twice, and then go back to being confused.
A Tale of Two Endings?
Actually, the Censor Board received two different versions of the film: Housefull 5 and Housefull 5A. While both are licensed as UA, they apparently have different climaxes, contain different jokes, introduce different villains and end in different ways. Should this happen and both movies appear in theaters, it could be seen as either a big gamble or simply an experiment.
Only time — and ticket sales — will tell.
Final Verdict on the Trailer
In a nutshell, the trailer is just okay. It’s not over-the-top like a big blockbuster movie, but it hasn’t failed either (so far). Good potential lies in the plot, some solid jokes and the team’s famous out-there moments. The outcome will say if Housefull 5 is still funny or if the jokes just aren’t worth watching.
If the film can mix its disorder with cleverness, it may turn out to be a surprise hit. If not, you might just see Dholakpur from Chhota Bheem pop up in the background out of sheer absurdity.
Verdict (Trailer):
⚖️ Sitting on the fence — could go either way.
Stay tuned (and maybe keep your expectations low).
